“Jamie's workshops have felt spacious, light, tender and kind. I feel wholeheartedly nourished and closer to myself through his work. There is always something new I understand. I return home inspired and curious.” – Clarissa, Artist and Teacher

"I find multiple sessions per week to be a vertical step up in my practice. I noticed after the first week how I was integrating the practice more often throughout my day, even on the days we didn't meet. Practicing with others amplifies the benefits of the practice. This work is valuable in my everyday life, and in my life as a teacher and artist. I notice how many people are benefiting; not only my students - their ease and calm is making waves in their families and work places." - Kate, Somatic Movement Teacher

2023 Thinking Body, Sensing Mind: Inner Journeys Through Non-Sleep Deep Rest (NSDR)

Thinking Body, Sensing Mind is a progressive sequence of journeys through the interior landscape of the body. This somatic practice creates a restorative break from the demands of the outer world by exploring varied streams of breath in a self-directed rhythm of movement and stillness.

We lie down, get comfortable and relax into ourselves to experience “sensate presence” – a non-conceptual form of thinking with sensation. The concept of Non-Sleep Deep Rest (NSDR), an essential ingredient in Somatic Expression – Body Wisdom for Modern Minds for clearing our minds and regenerating our bodies, has been brought to public attention through the work of Stanford researcher Andrew Huberman (YouTube talk HERE)

Each 75-minute session builds on the prior one, generating an easily repeatable repertoire of resources from the five basic somatic technologies - breath, vocalization, contact, movement and stillness - that can be called upon in daily life for self-regulation and satisfaction.

These somatic-expressive explorations are derived from the Embodied Mindfulness protocol for lively stillness in contemplative sitting. (Embodied Mindfulness class dates here.)

“To stop your mind does not mean to stop the activities of the mind. It means your mind pervades your whole body." - Shunryu Suzuki, Zen Master

"Being mindful is not a matter of thinking more clearly about experience; it is the act of experiencing more clearly. Mindfulness simply demands that we pay close attention to the flow of experience in each moment." - Sam Harris
