The Art of Sitting Comfortably

Sitting is one of the most common actions in modern life; whether at the computer, in the car, or at meals, we end up sitting a great deal. Given this reality, how can we sit more intelligently and easily with comfort and support? In this class, we will explore how we can organize our bodily structure from the inside out to meet the demands of the outer environment creatively and compassionately. We will also investigate strategies for adapting chairs into more comfortable and supportive environments for somatic well-being with a portable prop (inflatable ball).

Bringing Spirit into Form

Breath is the primary mover of the body; vocalization is breath vibrated and expressed; and movement is breath made visible. In this class, a progressive series of breath and vocalization resources drawn from Continuum, Taoist medicine, and other traditions are offered in a coherent sequence to explore and weave together in a dynamic rhythm of movement and stillness.

This simple, diverse menu of resources can inform and expand your own contemplative movement practice by combining shapings of the breath with bodily structure - bringing spirit into form.
